Kevlar Tennis Strings
Imagine playing with tennis strings made with the same material that is used in car tires and bullet proof vests.
The name of this material is Kevlar. Kevlar is an extremely stiff material and provides excellent durability, as much as 5 times the durability of nylon.
Because Kevlar strings are so stiff and have almost no elasticity, they are mostly combined with another more elastic string to increase playability. A combination of one type of string on the mains and another type of string on the crosses is called a hybrid string job.
A typical hybrid string job using Kevlar would utilize Kevlar strings on the main strings (vertical) and a basic synthetic for the cross strings.
Because of the stiffness of Kevlar strings it is not a good string for anybody who has a history of elbow pain or who wants to avoid the development of tennis elbow.
Another type of string that you may see on the market are what are called structured tennis strings, These are strings which are made deliberately rough to have more bite on the ball and create more spin.
Technically, strings like Kevlar are known as aramid strings.
